I was 9 years old when the Monkees made their debut on TV (1966)and I bought my first Monkees album. Who would have known that 25 years later I would be best friend and manager of Tommy Boyce, who wrote and produced so many of the Monkees hits. I spent the last weekend he was alive with Tommy and his wife Caroline at their Nashville home. I'm glad I took my Camcorder. I miss ya TB. You were a great guy and a great friend. You are missed by many.

Was Tommy's wife from Illinois? Did he use to visit her in Clarksville where she/he went to college? Is that how the song came about?

Caroline is from Canada. Tommy's first wife, Bobbi, is from the UK, and she used to work for Davey Jones.

I never asked Tommy the origin of "Clarksville", but I'm sure you could ask Bobby Hart on their MySpace page.

Tommy did tell me that they began writing the theme from "Days of our Lives" after spending the night on the beach and almost missing the studio meeting the next morning. The theme was finished in the limo that the studio sent to pick them up.

Cheers
