Andrew... now with the release of Headquarters & PAC&J soon approaching... I hate to ask this but do you know in general terms the wait time for the next two releases?
Are things pretty much lined up for the next two deluxe editions ... master tape wise... or are you still waiting for some crucial items to surface?
I am sure that you have already thought of all of this but my dream HEAD reissue is a two disc set. Disc 1 being the stereo album and as many extras you can fit on there since the Stereo album is quite short. Then Disc 2 being a newly mastered DVD of the movie with commentaries by all 4 Monkees, Bob Rafelson, Bert Schneider and Jack Nicholsen as well as any other visual components you can fit within the extras,(still photos from the shooting of the film, reproductions of articles and reviews about the movie from when it was first released to the present, etc.)Basically a definitive release of the movie. Maybe even a documentary about the making of the movie. Just a thought! Joe
Add a "Commentary Track" on those "Extras" too,of either the band or Nicholson, and add Andrew's comment in there too..and..NOW YER TALKIN'!!! Michael Boyce
Hey the more the merrier! It's too bad that no one seems to have found the tapes from their writing/brainstorming weekend in Ojai as those would be amazing to listen too! Has anyone asked Jack if he might have them? Joe
As far as I know,Mike got so mad at Jack,Bert& Bob that he took those tapes and locked them away in the trunk of his car....from there,I don't know what happened to them...perhaps they're still locked up in that trunk still!! Sad,but probably true. Michael Boyce
Just an idea for a "HEAD" 2-CD re-issue. I would love to have them make an alternate "Head" album for CD-2 using the versions of the songs heard in the film, as most of them are much different mixes then the ones found on the soundtrack album. Also there is mix of a song (I belive it's "Can You Dig it") on the old Lightning / Arista label CD (Released in the U.K.)that is an alternate mix from the one found on the Rhino release with the bonus tracks. The Lightning / Arista CD release also had the vocal up-front mix of "Circle Sky" (the one I enjoy most), but that was included on the Rhino release.

I can't wait to hear "Birds & Bees" in mono once and for all!
Head: Don't forget, there are mono mixes for those songs too - they were used on 45 and in the "Head" movie - as well as all the alternates that have been released previously - and the remixes of "Porpoise Song" and "As We Go Along" which are quite lovely.

I wouldn't get your hopes up on future Deluxe Editions...I think the plan was just for the 4 #1 albums. I may be wrong, but I was told there are no further re-releases planned...

No- Originally the plan was for Deluxe sets all the way through Present- according to Andrew. The reason for no Changes Deluxe set was there was no upgrade on the released version, and not enough bonus tracks to flesh out a 2 CD set. Since he disclosed this information, Rhino has undergone some changes, so who knows if the sets will continue? Andrew did say the future of the Deluxe sets will depend on the sales of the 2 new sets just released, so stay tuned...

Is this set in stone,or is this what was said of Rhino's decision to "Wait and see" rumors? And I'm curious to know if this is from a statement from Rhino itself. Could you tell us about where this info came from,so I can look it up myself? Michael Boyce
There were some mgt turnover and Bill Inglott was let go. I belive all of the comments from Andrew were either at Monkeeland board or Hoffman- you'll have to search for them, as they were made quite a while ago...
I found the quote about the Deluxe sets going on to "Present" http://p076.ezboard.com/fmonkeelandthegroup.showMessage...pic&start=21&stop=40 Here is the blurb: This is from another message board about the summary from Sandoval in that phone interview for the Monkees Marathon. The writer is known as Yellow Ballon.
Here's what is now known about the 40th Anniversary releases from Sandoval
1. Deluxe 2 CD sets for all the albums up till "The Monkees Present". There is no talk yet of "Changes". Rhino is unlikely to do it because they have not found the 2 missing tracks yet and that Rhino doesn't want to do it if there's nothing new, but they could still release it. No plans for "Pool it" or "Justus".
He spoke of some new un-earthed tapes for "Birds and Bees" that will be used. The original master mono and stereo tapes for PACJ, Missing Links tracks spread across the albums and on their proper albums and also the new batch of master tapes they just got months ago they are using. As for the Missing Links tracks, Andrew said they would be using new remixed tracks as well as unissued original mixes of those songs too.
"The Monkees" and "More Of The Monkees" have just been finished and mastered. I believe these 2 will be the first 2 albums released.
No plan to do a Rhino Handmade set for PACJ as there are no major haul of session tapes left. The Deluxe Edition will be the Handmade release for PACJ.
2. An official Monkees web site to feature downloadable material from Rhino's archives, includes rare pictures and the less commercial un-released material still left in the vaults.
3. More DVDs
4. Rhino is trying to get The Monkees involved. The Monkees presently do not have any "Monkee" plans on their calendars right yet, but that could change.
