First in Andrew' book is states in February or March of 1970, Pete Abbott send an acetate of songs for potential use on "Changes." I know some of the songs included: "Look Down" and Nesmith's production of "War Games". What were the nine songs send to Barry?
Also in Andrew's book, he lists the preliminary song order of Changes with "Time and Time Again." Does anybody know that early track listing?
Nesmith didn't produce "War Games," unless you count the fact that it was "Produced By The Monkees." Nesmith did produce "My Share Of The Sidewalk" with Davy on lead vocals. Of course, Nesmith also wrote the song.
Is it in its second printing? I'd like to get the book. It would perfectly compliment my current collection of Monkees reading materials. However, I have mostly the first printings of the books. Well, I have both editions of The Monkees Tale by Eric Lefcowitz.
There's new pressings for Micky & Davy's books as well.
Andrew book doesn't cover the new deluxe reissues, but I'm sure there'll be an updated edition somewhere down the line!
Oh yeah, there was probably a Nesmith/alt version of War Games. I havn't gotten that far in the book yet, but that'll be most interesting material to read (68-69).
I'd wish they'd reissue Missing Links Vol. 1-2 w/ updated liner notes like the other Rhino CDs. But @ least we now have these deluxe editions.
At least they were working together some. I love hearing about things they did together like that. I think they would have been the greatest group if "Instant Replay" had been another "Headquarters" and if Peter had not quit.
The Changes CD was indeed remastered from a first gen tape, except for "Oh My My" which had a dropout (heard on the LTTB box). I'm not sure about the By Request Japan box set, those were similar to the arista remixes I hear.
A german stereo tape was used to fix the dropout on the Rhino CD.
Had Nez would have been a part of changes, they certainly could have fit some of his stuff, as he recorded a wealth of material from his Nashville sessions, or leftovers from previous sessions (Birds, Present etc.).
Also, if Nez had been involved, more than likely Jeff Barry would not have been involved. That would have helped the album tremendously. Even if they used Barry's songs, they would have had Nez at the helm to make sure the songs don't sound too "bubblegum."
