I was asked to pass this along:

Hello

I thought you’d like to know that Michael Nesmith’s “The Prison” and “The Garden” are due for release on 14th April. Both packages will feature the story book alongside the CD jewel case in a card slipcase. Please feel free to forward this info and the Amazon links below to any Nesmith sites, chatrooms, message boards etc that you know of!

Here are the relevant pages at Amazon UK, who have them for a reasonable price of £11.99 each – my original copy of “The Prison” cost me £10 in 1975!

Thank you!

Val

Product Information

As a member of the first-ever manufactured group, Michael Nesmith needs little introduction. Aside from his ground-breaking projects in the field of music video and film production, he has enjoyed a solo career since he left the Monkees that has encompassed many styles of music, but has always been supported by his wonderful songwriting.

In 1974 Nesmith broke entirely new ground by issuing this “book with a soundtrack”. The idea is simply to read the book whilst listening to the record, both elements complementing the other.

Michael has revised the text of the story and for this release has also completely remixed and remastered the album from the original multi-track tapes. As a listening experience it is now quite different from the original 1974 album release.

The book will be packaged alongside the CD in a slipcase. This is the first time this album has been released in Europe.

Thanks for the info, I got my shipment of the 3 that was reissued by demon records and was surpirsed to see that in the liner notes it said that the Garden and Prison were both available?

And I thought I'd miss something, but I guess it was just premature or around the corner.

Now, he *really* needs to finish "The Magic Ball." It would be cool to have a box set containing the entire trilogy with liner notes and the new remixes. We can only hope.

The Prison is said to be remixed. But I believe the eariler CD pressing was remixed as well and sounded different than the original LP.

I have the LP too as well.

I'm not sure about that one. I'd have to go back and listen to compare the LP to the CD.

The 1990 Awareness release of "The Prison" was a remixed, remastered version of the 1974 lp version. It sounds very different. But in my opinion, very much improved. It makes the 1974 recording sound like a demo. It was released again on the Rio Records label but is the same mix as the 1990 Awareness release. This new release will contain yet another mix of the album.

The CD I have is the one on Rio Records. I believe it came out at the same time "The Garden" was first released. I really haven't listened to the vinyl very much. I've heard the CD more than I've heard the LP. I do have the LP, by the way. I just haven't played it as much as their other albums.

Well I hope this new mix is closer to the original LP.

Looks like I'm not getting rid of my CD just yet...

I'm keeping my CD. I'm holding out for a trilogy box set of Prison/Garden/Magic Ball. That's what I want.

I'm willing to bet that after these CD reissues. Nez will be done w/ reissues. @ least for a good while or for the CD format completely.

He may be done with reissues. Actually, I'm happy with the reissues I already have, except for wanting the trilogy that I mentioned. If he does, in fact, complete "The Magic Ball," I have a feeling that it would be his last album project. I may be wrong and I hope I am. I would like to hear what kind of an album he would follow "Rays" with. I love "Rays."

If "The Magic Ball" is the only exception to that rule, I'll be happy.

Nez said he "may" be done with touring but he never said he was done with recording. He's done a few electronic instrumental pieces that have popped up on VR3D at Ed's. And I would bet that "The Magic Ball" will be his next project given that he just revisited "The Prison" and "The Garden". A trilogy would be a great ideal. The question is what version of "The Prison" would be included - The original, 1990 remix or 2008 remix? I would imagine the latest mix but it would be neat to have the original 1974 mix on CD. According to Amazon.com/UK, my cds have been shipped. I'm hoping that Nez wrote something in the liner notes regarding "The Magic Ball". I'll let you know when I recieve my CDs.
