I don't know about anyone else, but I've noticed a distinct "buzzing" sound throughout the existing Changes CD. I bought another copy to see if it was the CD and it wasn't. One example is during the Acapulco Sun song, at about 2:19 and 2:42. That same noise appears on other songs too.
Is it final that Monkees Present is going to be the last reissue, or is there still a chance that Changes will be reissued too, with this problem corrected? I'd like to suggest as bonus songs, besides the existing ones, the fan club single version of "Steam Engine" and the fan club single of "Christmas is My Time of Year"/"White Christmas" (unless a Monkees Christmas EP could be released with both '76 & '86 versions of Christmas is My Time of Year, White Christmas, Riu Chiu, Micky's version of O Little Town of Bethlehem, and whatever else there may be...)
and of course, any unreleased music from the Changes period..

I've noticed that,as well as some tape "squeal" on "Acapulco Sun"! On top of that,I found Some distortion on"99 Pounds",too! Didn't they ever find the "clean" Version of "Changes"? And if not,WHY? Just asking...Michael Boyce

Andrew has mentioned on previous occasions that the squeeling / distortion on Changes is due to damages on the original master tapes. There are no known "clean" versions that have come to light heretofore and seem unlikely to exist.

Similarly, the two unreleased songs that session logs indicate were recorded in spring 1970 (Ride Baby Ride, Which Way Do You Want It) have never been found. Given that we are 36 years on now and multiple attempts to find them have turned up empty, they are probably lost to the sands of time. But you never know--look at the Propinquity demo. Andrew seemed just as surprised as any of us that it existed!

Cheers,

Jamie

Yeah, I forgot about that. He actually mentions it in his day by day Monkees book. I don't think it'll be fixed either after reading what he said. I hope "Sally" gets released--that's from the Changes era. Maybe it'll be on the Present album. Too bad Present & BBM can't get 3 CDs for each of those albums..

If you can find the original pressing or the Rhino reissue (which was a disc dub), the squeel is missing.

I actually thought that was part of the song! It sounds neat actually.

I have the original Colgems LP. There is no squeal. Well, except for the song "All Alone In The Dark," but I'm talking about Micky's vocal in that case. Sounds like his voice is cracking.

There's also an alt mix of 99 Pounds on the Rhino reissue of Changes on LP.

It's now on the HQ dlx CD reissue.

Oh yeah! I remember that. I used to have the Rhino LP version of "Changes," but I got rid of it after I found a Colgems pressing. I shouldn't have, though. I kinda liked the alternate mix of "99 Pounds" better.

I guess I need to get it, then. I need to break down and purchase all these new CD's after all. I've been very skeptical about the whole "buying what I already have," but if it's really worth it, I'll do it. Digipacks? I'm not fond of them. I'd prefer LP style covers, but I can get over that.

ah-ha, you see? Now you should buy them!

There's some other surpirses too as well for bonus tracks, but it's nice to finally get some decent mixes of the Missing Links stuff.
