I wonder if Rhino Handmade would ever consider doing a limited edition CD of the soundtrack to "Northville Cemetery Massacre"? It was done by Michael Nesmith but is only available as part of the film. I've never seen it but I would love to hear the music.
http://www.northvillecemeterymassacre.com/ Comments on Nez's music here: http://www.northvillecemeterymassacre.com/fancomments.html "One very important fact not mentioned by any of the other commenter's, and confirmed by Mr. Dear, was the fact that the music for this was scored by the great Michael Nesmith. I am a fan of his time in the Monkees as well as his great "solo" records released throughout the 1970's. If you've heard Nez's work from this period, you will certainly recognize his distinctive sound in the music here. I believe most (but not all) of this music was recorded especially for this film, and as such would be a treat to hear for any Nesmith admirers. How to describe his style? Cole Porter on the Prairie could be one shorthand meme, but that does a disservice to his elegant yet down home music. He combines western cowboy songs, country-rock, blues, Caribbean Pop and lilting, wistful melodies in a unique fashion. Some of the musical themes are what you would expect in a picture like this: some hammering blues-rock and some country truckin' songs. One of the songs was sung by Garland Frady. Nesmith released some LP's by him on his Pacific Arts record label which he operated at that time." |

I'd think that Videoranch would release that before Rhino Handmade... but, either way, I'd still like to hear it.... I guess I'll have to get the movie in the meantime.

Everything that is released by Videoranch comes straight from Nez. I doubt he would bother. Look how long it took to get him to release "Live At The Palais" and "Wichita Train Whistle".
Then again, if it weren't any trouble to get the music and pay out the royalties... Who knows? I think that the other two CDs got released because of all the emails to Videoranch requesting them. So email here: vrforeman@videoranch.com & nez@videoranch.com |

Nez owns all of his post Monkees recordings, so this would have to be a Videoranch release.
Now his pre-Monkees solo recordings on Colpix are owned by Rhino..and it would be nice to get those out. |

It wouldn't necessarily have to be a Videoranch release. When Rhino released "Newer Stuff" and "Older Stuff" - that was all liscensed from Nez and of coarse contained all post-Monkees tracks.
I wish Rhino would do a Monkees solo collection. Pre and Post. That would be too cool! |

"Older Stuff" and "Newer Stuff" were licensed to Rhino during the period between Pacific Arts and Videoranch.
Being the control freak he can be, will bet Nez would rather release it on his own than license to Rhino. But the point really isn't up to arguement between us...its really a business decision for Nesmith. |

I've thought about that before, and it would be nice. Rhino could do the pre-Monkees Nesmith, and the pre/post Monkees Jones, Dolenz (and if there's any Tork from the 60s/70s??) all in one Rhino Handmade box set. Of course Jones already released a lot of his stuff already, and Dolenz has released some(albeit not his good stuff from that time) |

Pre-and Post Monkees solo collection...We can only hope.

What we need is a Rhino Handmade Collection from each individual Monkee. A three disc set of B-sides and unreleased recordings from each Monkee. That would be four 3-disc sets. That would be awesome!

Awesome indeed.

I wonder what it would take to get something like that released.
|
|||
|
Probably if we wrote en mass to Rhino!
Rhino Handmade has a suggestion box, Dr. Rhino said that eventually it'll happen. |

Yes! We all need to get together and write en masse to Rhino. That way, we can get all that stuff we've been promised for all these years.

I think Nez might have disowned the Northvill... movie and the soundtrack, I was reading in "Total Control" that he didn't even like the movie or wanted to be involved due to his heavy christan science beliefs.

Yeah, he sort of did that for his fried Bill Dear. Although, the music shouldn't be a problem. Maybe he could reissue the soundtrack, but not refer to the movie. You know, an album with a different title. Or, he could put the songs up for download individually. He wouldn't have to refer to the movie, that way.
