I know of 2 Nilsson songs The Monkees did -- "Cuddly Toy" & "Daddy's Song" . Well, according to the Monkees Sessionography, they did 3. Is this True?? If so, what's the name of the song & what album is it on??
Thnx;
Rich

Well, Micky did "Daybreak" solo. There was another one that made it on the Headquarters Box Set-they never did vocals for it. Something about Rock And Roll...

The song on the Headquarters Box you are talking about is "The Story Of Rock 'n' Roll" by Nilsson. A finished version of this song was released by Chip Douglas's old band The Turtles.

I think it would be neat if Micky or Davy went into the studio and put vocals on instrumentals like "The Story Of Rock And Roll," "She's So Far Out She's In" and "Masking Tape." If they did enough of those, we could have a new Monkees album!

Also, I wish I could get "I Didn't Know You Had It In You Sally" on CD.

I'd put Mike on his song Where Has It All Gone?
Davy on She's So Far Out She's In
Peter on The Story of Rock and Roll
and Micky on Masking Tape.

One can dream.

From what I've heard, Mike sang "She's So Far Out She's In" when they played concerts in 1966. It would be cool to hear that.

I was matching singer to song so as to have each Monkee represented for these 4 songs.

Yeah. It's a great idea to do that. I wish they had done that on Justus. Instead, we got Mike singing only one song and that was the Circle Sky remake. I really wish he had done lead vocals on Admiral Mike. I also wish they had recorded more of his songs. Justus was basically Micky's album.

That was the idea that Rhino had orignally for their Anthoglogy collection, for the four to finish up the old 60's unreleased stuff.

But instead they made JUSTUS instead, Nez said that Micky sang mostly lead, because that's how it was in the old days and he likes Micky's voice and would prefer Micky to be the lead singer if he was in a band.

Yes, but when he says that, he's not giving himself enough credit. Don't get me wrong, I like Micky. But I always liked the way the Monkees alternated on lead vocals. You know, they took turns. I like that about them. So, to give Micky the lion's share of lead vocals is wrong. They only did that on "The Monkees," their first album and "Justus" their last album. It doesn't make sense.

Why they just didn't do a double album is beyond me!!!!!!!

for Justus, or @ least more than 12 songs. Come on, it's not the 60's anymore. Nowadays or certainly @ the time, artists were putting more tracks on an album, esp considering that a CD holds more than a LP!

Well I look @ it, being full circle.

Exactly. They should have done more than 12 songs. I also agree with what Davy Jones said about the album. They should have hired an outside producer. They should not have produced it themselves. Also, they should not have abandoned the material so quickly. Davy couldn't stand the fact that he couldn't get Micky to perform "It's My Life" at Monkees concerts.

Also, they should have done 12 new songs, not 10 new songs and two remakes. When the album came out, that was my biggest complaint. I already had "Circle Sky" on the "Head" album and "You And I" on the "Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart" album. So, basically, they only did 10 songs.
