Hello monkee friends all over the world!
My name is Zulmira and I write from Brazil.
I know and love The Monkees since 1967, when the TV show debuted on our television. My late friend Marilene and I founded a fan club in 1969, the still alive, sound and growing "International Association of The Monkees Fans".
Though my country has been among the ones with more Monkees fans per square inch (together with U.K., Japan and Australia), we never had the happiness of attending a live concert, be it with 4kees or 3kees or 2kees.
(We did have kind of a 1kee concert: Peter came for a short vacation in 2003 and thanks to his gold heart he interrupted his rest and played and sang for us one night.)
We wish we could thank all the guys personally for so many years of joy and enchantment, but it seems like they will never remember their loyal and adoring Brazilian fans. Instead of sitting back and cry we chose to do something about the matter. We decided to throw a beneficent party every year so that we can help people in need (especially children) in honor of The Monkees.
We have been doing so since 2004. The event is called "Monkees Day" and it's held in September, as close as possible to the glorious date of September 12.
The "III Monkees Day" will take place on next September 16. This year we will gather goods for "Casa Vida" (Home of Life), a non-profit organization that takes care of abandoned, seropositive children.
We wish to have this idea adopted by other groups of Monkees fans from other places of the world because we believe this is a far better way of thanking our idols than building them a shrine in our bedrooms or collecting monkee items.
